Dr. Madhuri S. Kurdi

Dr. Madhuri S. Kurdi is a distinguished academician, clinician, and educator with over 31 years of experience in Anaesthesiology. She currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department at KMCRI, Hubballi. An alumnus of B.J. Government Medical College, Pune, Dr. Kurdi has contributed extensively to medical education, research and scientific writing, and clinical excellence.

She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, served as Associate Editor for leading anaesthesia journals, and is a recognized postgraduate examiner across premier Indian universities.

Her areas of interest include anaesthetic pharmacology, sleep medicine, obstetric anaesthesia, and medical education.

A recipient of multiple national awards — including the prestigious ISA Bhopal National Award for Academic Excellence (2024) — Dr. Kurdi is also a certified medical education resource person and has played key roles in organizing national CMEs and academic events.

Her leadership and dedication continue to inspire generations of anaesthesiologists.

Academic Excellence

Dr. Kurdi has authored more 100 scientific publications, contributed to two national COVID advisories.She has experience of serving on the editorial team of Pubmed indexed journals such as the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia(IJA) and Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology (JOACP). She is currently on the editorial board of Practical Evidence in Anaesthesia Knowledge (PEAK) and on the advisory board of Indian Journal of Clinical Anaesthesia (IJCA). She is also currently the associate editor of VAPOUR - the ISA national newsletter. Her academic contributions reflect a deep commitment to advancing knowledge in anaesthesiology.

Medical Education Leader

With over 28 years of teaching experience, Dr. Kurdi is a recognized postgraduate guide and examiner for multiple prestigious universities across India. She has also completed the One-year Advance Course in Medical Education in Medical education technology and is an NMC-recognised resource person, demonstrating her leadership in training future medical professionals.

Service & Growth

As the Head of Department at KMCRI, Hubballi, and former President of the ISA Hubli- Dharwad branch, Dr. Kurdi has led numerous national CMEs, workshops, and academic programs. Her multiple national awards, including the prestigious ISA Bhopal National Award for academic excellence (2024), underscore her unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical practice and service to the anaesthesia community.

Research & Innovation

Dr. Kurdi has not only published extensively but has also led funded research projects—such as the RGUHS-sponsored study on gut bacteria, probiotics, and surgical stress(2016-17) and ICMR-sponsored study on “Potential role of Mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 as a biomarker in sepsis. (2024) Her work bridges clinical practice with scientific inquiry, demonstrating a strong focus on innovation in anaesthesia.

From obstetric anaesthesia to sleep medicine, medical education to airway management, Dr. Kurdi’s wide range of interests showcases her versatility. Her roles as speaker, panelist, workshop director, judge for scientific paper writing and CME organiser across India reflect a broad and impactful presence in both clinical and academic spheres.
